Geostatistical Analysis of a Mineral Deposit: a Case Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Measurements of mineral grades of an industrial mineral deposit (talcum) are used in a geostatistical case study. The data available come from a quality sampling scheme of the operating mine and can be assigned to two stoping layers each 3 m thick. The aim of the study is to establish a quality model on the basis of the mined blocks of the deposit. This will be used in the direct control of the extraction sequence of the blocks to guarantee certain average grades in the raw material for further treatment. A structural analysis (variogramming) shows certain trends, high nugget eect and high variances in the classi®ed data sets. By removing a certain trend and introducing a multiplication factor, a consistent model for both stoping layers can be established. This is further used to calculate extrapolated point values by kriging at the known sampling points in the second layer for validation of the model. To establish the quality model for planning the extraction sequences, block values on grid nodes according to the extraction scheme also have been extrapolated for the second and third stoping layers. # 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Geostatistical estimation to delineate oxide and sulfide zones using geophysical data; a case study of Chahar Bakhshi vein-type gold deposit, NE Iran
Delineation of oxide and sulfide zones in mineral deposits, especially in gold deposits, is one of the most essential steps in an exploration project that has been traditionally carried out using the drilling results. Since in most mineral exploration projects there is a limited drilling dataset, application of geophysical data can reduce the error in delineation of the sulfide and oxide zones....
متن کاملCharacterization of rare earth elements by coupling multivariate analysis, factor analysis, and geostatistical simulation; case-study of Gazestan deposit, central Iran
The traditional approaches of modeling and estimation of highly skewed deposits have led to incorrect evaluations, creating challenges and risks in resource management. The low concentration of the rare earth element (REE) deposits, on one hand, and their strategic importance, on the other, enhances the necessity of multivariate modeling of these deposits. The wide variations of the grades and ...
متن کاملModelling lake sediment geochemical distribution using principal component, indicator kriging and multifractal power-spectrum analysis: a case study from Gowganda, Ontario
Combined geostatistical and multifractal power-spectrum modelling of geochemical distributions can provide suitable indicators of metal dispersion, and is capable of analysing complex problems for targeting potential areas for mineral exploration. A case study analysing lake sediment geochemical data for the Gowganda area is presented and development of the methodology for spatial analysis of t...
متن کاملAccuracy evaluation of different statistical and geostatistical censored data imputation approaches (Case study: Sari Gunay gold deposit)
Most of the geochemical datasets include missing data with different portions and this may cause a significant problem in geostatistical modeling or multivariate analysis of the data. Therefore, it is common to impute the missing data in most of geochemical studies. In this study, three approaches called half detection (HD), multiple imputation (MI), and the cosimulation based on Markov model 2...
متن کاملSpatial modelling of zonality elements based on compositional nature of geochemical data using geostatistical approach: a case study of Baghqloom area, Iran
Due to the existence of a constant sum of constraints, the geochemical data is presented as the compositional data that has a closed number system. A closed number system is a dataset that includes several variables. The summation value of variables is constant, being equal to one. By calculating the correlation coefficient of a closed number system and comparing it with an open number system, ...
